Dear Gerhild Müller,
We hope you had a great summer and we look forward to seeing you soon at one of our upcoming events in the fall. Attend our Career Lunch on 30 November or apply for our Pitch Event to present your project that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals.
It was a great joy to welcome the participants of our ETH – KNUST Global Development Summer School on sustainable solid waste management and we are now looking forward to a great learning experience with the students and faculty from Switzerland and Ghana. You can follow the summer school activities on Instagram.
In the Innovation section, you can learn more about a joint project between ETH and the International Committee of the Red Cross that deploys artificial intelligence to monitor armed conflicts, as well as a project that aims to co-create sustainable supply chain policies with farmers in Ivory Coast. If you are an ETH researcher and interested in a faculty exchange or in conducting a collaborative research project, check out the open grants in the Opportunity section.
Best wishes, Marriette Mertens and Adina Rom For the ETH4D Team |

Prototyping Sustainable Supply Chain Policies with Ivorian Cocoa Farmers |
As a response to deforestation and climate change, major cocoa producers and traders in Ivory Coast are promoting agroforestry. While it offers many opportunities, farmers are skeptical for various reasons, including initial upfront costs. Together with farmers, the ETH Environmental Policy Lab is co-designing a policy for companies to encourage agroforestry practices. The ETH4D Research to Action Grant will enable the researchers to consult farmers and co-design workshops. |
