Some information on the DOI3 project
The setting up of your new DOI system is coming along fine and in time. We are currently in the implementation phase and the new system is being developed as planned. Next, the testing phase is going to start in December. We are going to test both the new interface and the harvesting process together with customers from the University of Geneva, the University Library of Basel and our own systems, like the Research Collection and E-Pics. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the customers who agreed to help us with the tests!
The migration is planned for the first quarter of 2022 and should run smoothly, the registration of new DOIs should not be interrupted. We will inform by email when exactly this will take place. Manual registration in DataCite Fabrica and the registration directily via DataCite REST API are independent from this project and therefore not part of the migration mentioned above.

Integration of IGSN into DataCite
IGSN is a globally unique and persistent identifier for material samples. There are currently about 10 Mio registered IGSNs. IGSN e.V. is an international non-profit organization. In the near future, IGSNs will be registered as DOIs through DataCite. While IGSN will develop a community engagement infrastructure to support practice adoption and evolution of samples discovery service, DataCite can offer a long term stability and continuity of service for IGSNs. In October 2021, the partnership of IGSN and DataCite became official. More information about this can be read in the DataCite Blog. If you are interested in registering IGSNs as DOIs, please contact us.

The DataCite Roadmap
The DataCite Roadmap is displayed on a website where all DataCite customers, may they be direct members, consortia leads or consortia organizations, can enter ideas and suggestions on how to develop the DataCite services in the future. Furthermore, everyone can vote for the suggestions already made and therefore emphasize their importance. With this open roadmap, DataCite gives the community an active role and the possibility to guide the future services into a desired direction. We therefore strongly recommend making use of this and letting DataCite know your wishes and ideas.
