Dear all at D-ITET,

In this spring edition of DISCOVER D-ITET, I have the pleasure of announcing several appointments and promotions: Mathieu Luisier has been promoted to Full Professor of Computational Nanoelectronics, Valerio Mante has been appointed as Associate Professor of Neuroinformatics, and Dr. Daniele Passerone, D-ITET Lecturer and Group Leader at Empa, has been appointed as Adjunct Professor. Please join me in congratulating Mathieu, Valerio, and Daniele!

I would also like to give a warm welcome to Andrea Salow. She succeeds Doris Döbeli at D-ITET's Student Administration Office.

As you may already have read in the ETH news, the opening of the new GLC building is finally approaching. This building – located right next to the ETZ and dedicated to biomedical research – will host several professorships from D-ITET. According to the current plans, first professorships will start moving into the new building from autumn 2022 onwards, and the building is scheduled to open in spring semester 2023.

While the coronavirus pandemic is not over, restrictions have been lifted in Switzerland recently, and life at ETH Zurich and D-ITET has slowly been returning to normal. Nevertheless, it is recommended that in situations with a high risk of transmission face masks are considered as a protective measure. In some teaching contexts, such as crowded laboratory courses, they may still be declared obligatory.

I conclude this editorial on a sombre note due to the tragic events in Ukraine. ETH condemns the acts of war and has put measures in place for supporting all affected students and researchers. Please visit http://www.ethz.ch/solidarity to find out more about these support measures and about options what you can do if you wish to help. Our thoughts are with affected families of our department members and all people who are suffering from the war in Ukraine.

I wish you a peaceful Easter.
