We are delighted to announce Mona-Lisa Michel and JingJing Li as the latest INSPIRE Potentials - Quantum Center Master Award winners. The award recognises outstanding and highly motivated female students who are about to conduct their Master's thesis in one of the member groups of the Quantum Center.

Mona-Lisa Michel is conducting her Master's thesis in quantum engineering in a joint project between the Hybrid Quantum Systems group of Yiwen Chu and the group of Paul Seidler at IBM Research. She is exploring a Ill–V material as a platform for microwae-to-optical transduction using optomechanics. Mona holds a Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from ETH Zurich.

JingJing Li is pursuing her Master's thesis in computational science and engineering in the Computational Lattice Field Theory group of Marina Krstic Marinkovic. Her focus is on the computational aspects of lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) simulations. She gained her Bachelor's degree in physical natural sciences from the University of Cambridge, specialising in theoretical physics.

The next deadline for applications is July 1, 2024. Further information.

Prof. Nicolò Defenu joins the Quantum Center
We warmly welcome Prof. Nicolò Defenu as a new member of the Quantum Center at ETH Zurich.
Nicolò Defenu is Assistant Professor for Quantum Physics at the Department of Physics. His research is at the intersection of statistical physics and field theory, with a particular interest in long-range interacting quantum systems. He currently holds an ERC Starting Grant, which is funded by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI.

Quantum Center Faculty Fellowships and other funding opportunities
The Quantum Center offers different funding opportunities, one of which is the Faculty Fellowship program.
The Quantum Center Faculty Fellowships provide financial support to visiting professors who plan to spend a period ranging from two weeks to a few months in a Quantum Center member group, with the aim of fostering knowledge exchange and establishing collaborations.

Our first two Faculty Fellows were Shahal Ilani of the Weizmann Institute of Science and Raffi Budakian of the University of Waterloo, who visited the Quantum Center in 2023. Learn more about the fellowship program.

Furthermore, the Quantum Center can provide financial support for schools, conferences, and workshops in quantum science and technology organized by students and scientists from ETH Zurich. For further information, please contact the Executive Office via qc@ethz.ch well ahead of the planned event.
