We round up this exciting first year of ETH4D with our third newsletter! The first grantees of the ETH4D research challenge grants have been selected. To apply for the next round of the ETH4D research challenges and for more information on the open positions we have, check out the Opportunities section. In this newsletter, we continue our series of portaits with ETH4D members presenting their thoughts on global development through a series of questions. We hope to see many of you in our upcoming Events.

ETH4D Research Challenges Grantees
Meet the Research Challenge Grantees
We are delighted to present to you the first grant recipients of the ETH4D Research Challenges, who work on projects addressing challenges faced by underprivileged people in low income countries. These projects also foster collaborations between ETH researchers, non-​academic partners (i.e. Private Sector, NGOs, Governmental Organisations) and partners from the Global South.
Opportunities
Open call for Research Challenges
The call for proposals for the second round of the ETH4D Research Challenges is now open! The goal of these project-based collaborations between ETH researchers, non-​academic partners (i.e. Private Sector, NGOs, Governmental Organisations) and partners from the Global South is to develop effective solutions for poverty reduction. Application deadline: 30 April 2020.
Open positions
Professorship of Development Engineering (100%)
The call for applications for the position of Professor of Development Engineering at ETH Zurich is still open! The Professor of Development Engineering will take a central role in shaping development engineering research at ETH Zurich and in teaching development engineering courses, educating future leaders of sustainable development. Application deadline: 15 January 2020.
Program Associate (60-80%)
The Program Associate will be in charge of communication and outreach activities such as public events, courses, conferences and student activities and will support the development of new ETH4D programmes. Application deadline: 5 January 2020.
Intern in Global Sustainable Development (80%)
The Intern in Global Sustainable Development will manage external communication channels, foster the ETH4D stakeholder network and support the ETH4D funding programmes. Application deadline: 5 January 2020.

ETH Sustainability Summer School

Education and Decent Work for Youth

In the framework of the r4d project LELAM-TVET4INCOME, ETH4D member groups the Swiss Economic Institute KOF and NADEL - Center for Development and Cooperation are organising an international conference on improving education and the working conditions for youth in low income countries. Papers can be submitted here until 31st January 2020.
