Healthy newborns thanks to artifical intelligence
The ETH AI Center is becoming an interdisciplinary hotspot for artificial intelligence. A new generation of AI researchers will be trained there, says Professor Andreas Krause, but also AI entrepreneurs who bring research to the economy. Examples of such application-oriented research already exist today. Professor Julia Vogt, for example, bridges the gap between data-driven computer science and applied medicine.

At the Dubochet Center for imaging, atoms are made visible
Fully operational for two weeks, the Dubochet Center for Imaging was presented to the press on November 22. The DCI houses the world’s most advanced cryo-electron microscopes, which promises considerable advances in biomedical research thanks to the precision of the images that these microscopes can obtain.

Spalted wood is a highly sought-after material in the high-end furniture industry. In a newly developed process, Empa scientists have succeeded at controlling the spread of fungi in native wood types to create elaborate marblewood pictures – and even taught the fungi to write some words.
