Meet the Expert
«Meet the Expert» – Ask us!
What are the characteristics of successful learners? How do multilingual children develop? Is our brain ‘full’ at some point, or can we learn new things without restriction?

The «Developmental Science Network Zurich» offers the opportunity to talk directly with recognized experts in an individual or small group discussion. The next «Meet the Expert» will take place on Wednesday, 10 May 2023 between 16:00 and 17:30. «Meet the Expert» is an interactive form of knowledge transfer, in which experts are available for a 25-minute online conversation with interested persons or small working groups (max. 4 persons). You can ask the questions you have always wanted to ask scientists from the field of (human) development.

Have we aroused your interest? You can find more information here. You can register for free on the website.

Workshop stabile Isotope
Laboratory workshop stable isotopes: On the trail of isotopes from grass to milk
A workshop of the Institute of Agricultural Sciences at D-USYS ETH for students of the level secondary school 2 (suitable from 3rd grade of the Gymnasium level).

The isotope laboratory at ETH Campus Zentrum (Universitätstr. 2) offers teachers and their classes the unique opportunity to discover the world of stable isotopes in a detective-like way. Students learn about the isotope mass spectrometer and investigate whether the isotope "fingerprint" can be used to find out what the cow ate and whether the milk was produced organically. Students make their own milk powder in the lab, which is then analyzed in the mass spectrometer.

The learning activity is interdisciplinary and can be located in biology or chemistry or in advanced courses in either subject. The workshop lasts 3 hours, booking enquiries are to be submitted 1 month before the desired date.

StART Familie
Families sought for study on assisted reproduction
A study by the Psychological Institute of the University of Zurich is looking for families of four who had one of their two children with the help of assisted reproductive techniques and the other naturally. Click here to go directly to the study.

In Switzerland, about one in 33 children is born after assisted reproduction. We know from research that infertility and its treatment can be very stressful for couples. But how is the family doing after the birth of the child? And what are the psychobiological effects of assisted reproduction on the family? What are the chances and risks of the treatment? These are the questions that the study wants to answer.

Participation includes the completion of psychological questionnaires by the parents and the one-time independent collection of fingernail and saliva samples from the entire family from home. All data collected will be kept absolutely confidential and encrypted.
