Newsletter 4/2024
Dear reader,

In our last newsletter before the summer break we are both looking back on the FameLab heat at ETH Zürich and forwards to several upcoming formats like the Citizen Science school and an Arts-meets-Science-exhibition, to mention two of them. As goodie we have added the link to a quiz on neuromyths!

Best regards,

FameLab ZH
FameLab Switzerland - Semifinal in Zurich
The Zurich heat of FameLab Switzerland took place on 22 May 2024. At FocusTerra we experienced an evening with fascinating and entertaining scientific presentations. In 3-minute talks we learned about new methods of parasite control, how distance between stars and the earth is measured, how a droplet of liquid made of proteins helps a cell to divide and more! Many thanks to everyone involved: all the ScienceSlammers (researchers from UZH, ETH and EAWAG), the members of the jury Eisha Mhatre, Marco Garbelli and Ruchi Manglunia and to our host Natascha Hedrich. Watch all presentations on our Youtube channel.

Congratulations to Gabriela Araujo, Julia Hütte, Emanuele Fara und Michael Morari for qualifying for the Swiss Final! The final is taking place on 26 September 2024 at PROGR, starting at 6 pm. We would love to have you in the audience so save the date!

Growing Brains
The Brain Myth Quiz
There is a lot of information circulating about the human brain - including some misinformation. These widespread misconceptions about the brain are called “neuromyths”. For example, is it really true that we only use 10 percent of our brain?

Take the quiz created by "Growing Brains" and find out how many facts you can distinguish from neuromyths. Which of the statements are true (facts) or false (myths)? Following the completion of the questionnaire, all participants can enter a prize draw. Of course we will also provide you with information about everything that is true about the brain! Participate in the quiz now.

Growing Brains is a science outreach initiative by the NMR Kids Lab at the Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development at the University of Zurich. Life Science Zurich is project partner of "Growing Brains".
