Forscher*innen teilen Wissen
Researchers sharing knowledge
Are you interested in a personal exchange with scientists? Do you have questions you would like to ask them directly?

With our new offer, we would like to make current scientific topics more accessible through personal contacts with researchers. We facilitate an exchange between interested people and life science researchers at ETH and the University of Zurich.

Researchers share knowledge on topics such as skin cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, personalized cancer therapy, stroke, skin regeneration, brain-computer interfaces, brain & drugs, memory, brain development, bacteriophages, microbiological growth, bacterial natural products from the ocean, RNA and disease, ribosomes, computational drug design, biochemistry, genetics, ethnobotany, animal experimentation, and research on primates. More topics will be added to the list continuously.

The exchange lasts 45 minutes (25 min presentation, 20 min discussion) and usually takes place virtually. You can request for a specific topic via email and we will contact the scientist. The exchange between researchers and small groups of non-scientists takes place in German. We are planning to offer topics in English in the future as well.

Are you interested in a specific topic that we do not yet have on offer? Please contact us! We are looking forward to your contact and registration! You can find more information and the detailed list of topics on our website.

Treffpunkt Science City
«Forces of Nature» - fall program Treffpunkt Science City
How do plants use the sun's energy? Exactly, with photosynthesis, the basis for our life. Why do bacteria represent the origin of biodiversity? How do earthquakes or supervolcanoes occur? Fire and water are simultaneously life-giving and destructive forces. Energy from the sun and wind - but also nuclear fission - helps people generate electricity. And we ask: Is our life a matter of chance? Quantum physics knows the answer.

The fall program of ETH's public education program deals with the power of nature. Treffpunkt Science City offers lectures, experiments, lab tours and panel discussions for all generations. During 5 weeks each fall and spring, a free program is offered on a focus topic.

Program Fall 2022:
 Experience Sundays on 30 October, 6, 20 & 27 November 2022.
Program: will be published here at the end of September.

Meet the Expert
«Meet the Expert» – Ask us!
How do multilingual children develop? (How) can the educational competence of socially stressed parents be increased? What are the characteristics of successful teachers?

The «Developmental Science Network Zurich» offers the opportunity to talk directly with recognized experts in an individual or small group discussion. The next «Meet the Expert» will take place on Monday, 7 November 2022 between 16:00 and 17:30. «Meet the Expert» is an interactive form of knowledge transfer, in which experts are available for a 25-minute online conversation with interested persons or small working groups (max. 4 persons). You can ask the questions you have always wanted to ask scientists from the field of (human) development from birth to death, comparing species and in different cultures.

Have we aroused your interest? You can find more information here. You can register for free on the following website.

Reatch ideas competition 2022
Reatch Ideas Competition 2022: With research responding to crises before they emerge
Whether it is to tackle the climate crisis, the energy transition, or the transformation of work – a close and constructive collaboration between researchers and politicians is crucial to resolve societal challenges. However, when tackling social crises, scientific findings and research insights remain unused far too often – or, if they find their way into the development of political and social solutions, they do so only at a late stage.

At the ideas competition we are looking for your solutions to the crises of tomorrow!

As one of five finalists, you will present your idea to a top-class jury and you can win prize money. In addition and as a special prize, you can win a participation in the Franxini Innovation Hub, in which you and your idea will be guided and supported during the implementation process.

For more information, visit the website. Deadline for submission is 16 October 2022.

SMILIES-Studie
