Chlorine in drinking water influences children’s intestinal flora
Chlorination of drinking water reduces infections – and it changes the composition of the intestinal flora of young children, as a study published recently in “Nature Microbiology” shows. The results indicate that the diversity of the intestinal flora isn’t reduced and bacteria associated with gut health are increased.

Solar nanowire-nanotube filter offers easy access to clean water
Scientists at EPFL have developed a highly efficient water purification filter that uses only solar power. The prototype can supply clean drinking water even at remote places to small populations and can be easily scaled-up.

On the way to climate-neutral road traffic
If 60% of the conventional gasoline- and diesel-powered passenger cars in Switzerland were to be converted to "electricity-based" vehicles by 2050, the greenhouse gas emissions of the fleet could be reduced by two to 4.5 million tons annually, which is substantial when compared to the current level of around six million tons. However, the framework conditions are crucial.
